Full Review

Running air conditioning from a van battery is a significant power draw — there is no getting around it. The Dometic FreshJet 3000 is designed to be as efficient as possible while delivering genuine cooling in the Australian summer heat that makes other solutions inadequate.

Power Reality Check

The FreshJet 3000 draws approximately 25–30A at 12V in cooling mode — around 300–360W. Running this continuously from battery power requires a very large battery bank (400Ah+ lithium recommended) and substantial solar charging to maintain balance. For most van builds, this means A/C is a supplementary tool used for 1–2 hours at a time to pre-cool the van, not a continuous comfort system.

Rooftop Installation

Installation requires a 400mm x 700mm roof opening and professional electrical connection. Best installed by an auto electrician during the build phase, not retrofitted after wall panels are in.
