⛺ Free camping

Exceptional free camping. QLD has thousands of free and low-cost campsites including rest areas every 50km on most highways. Huge national parks offer cheap camping. Cape York has dozens of free spots.

📋 Registration

Campervan registration via Queensland Transport. Converted vans need a Safety Certificate and compliance plate inspection. Self-contained certification helps access more campsites.

🌙 Sleeping in your van

Very van-friendly. Most country towns welcome overnight van parking. Brisbane metro is more restrictive. The further from the coast, the more welcoming.

☀️ Solar performance

QLD sunshine coast averages 5.5–6.5 peak sun hours — one of the best in the country. A 200W system can comfortably run a fridge and lighting year-round.

📍 Must-visit spots in Queensland

🚐 Overview

QLD is one of Australia's best van life destinations — excellent sunshine (top solar performance), warm weather most of the year, and massive free camping opportunities. The Cape York and Outback QLD routes are iconic.

🛣️ Roads

Bruce Highway is the main coastal route — heavy traffic but well-maintained. Outback QLD roads vary enormously; check road conditions before heading remote.
